Overview
I-D Media have worked with Renault UK for the past eight years - delivering a wide variety of online solutions. www.press.renault.co.uk provides a sole point-of-entry for the press to access general information relating to Renault UK.
Brief
On the advice of the e-commerce department at Renault UK, the Press department commissioned us to design and develop a platform through which they could broadcast information to the media.
The following objectives were identified:
provide a single place for all Press to access the latest news, images, video content, e-brochures and general information about Renault UK
design the look and feel in a way that showcases Renault's new global branding guidelines
implement user management functionality giving control to Renault UK over who accesses this content
allow members of the Press and PR department to manage the content of the site, using a bespoke content management system
provide clear, simple and intuitive navigation across the site with logical organization of content
Approach
As a result of a thorough requirements analysis at the beginning of the project we were able to implement the best possible design and software architecture solution. This allowed for extendibility and developing modules of functionality that can be reused across other Renault UK domains.
Solution
The development of a centralised media library allows Renault UK to publish high resolution imagery, video content, Flash assets and podcasts, which visitors are able to store and download.
The bespoke content management system allows admin staff to upload articles, images, videos and other content to the website, via an easy-to-use interface without having any technical knowledge.
The site was developed in such a way that the framework can easily be extended upon, as Renault expand their range of vehicles.
Results
The application is a showcase website for Renault UK. It is a vast improvement on the previous iteration of www.press.renault.co.uk and continues to receive a large amount of applications from potential users. The project is considered to be a resounding success by Renault UK; and has been lauded as a leading media portal within the automotive sector.
There are currently over 3500 images, videos and press packs for the media hungry public to enjoy.
In October 2008 Renault won 3 awards at the Auto Trader Click Awards:
